DON'T TREAD ON ME Don't tread on me or my right to remain free Musicians and artists always fought for free expression So why are so many pushing for their foes' oppression? No longer does democracy Protect one's civil liberties Gone is free speech, here's tyranny Forced thought control on those who don't agree Don't tread on me or my right to remain free It's cowards who shut down those with whom they don't agree While speaking of tolerance, it's pure hypocrisy Do as you're told, not as they do Remember, they're more wise than you You're horrible, deplorable If you don't share their point of view Do you remember McCarthyism? Targeting was so unjust Wasn't it healthy to distrust power? A curb on the government And then wasn't it punk rock To question authority? To boldly not conform Be careful setting precedents Don't always trust the President Balance of power is nearly equal And karma is, well, it's a bad word - February 2021, Ash Hall
